It is evident when walking into Jefferson Elementary School that there is an excitement about learning. Pictures of the students and their work are hung for all who enter to see that the focus is on the students. Each and every staff member operates with the frame of mind that “it’s all about the kids.”
Principal Sheryl Robinson says, “We have come so far in our quest to do what it takes to make every student a reader and a learner!! I am proud of each of my staff members, the students and their parents, as we strive to become better and better. We all see our role as a team that is responsible for collaboratively setting a direction for our school. It is our job to continually align the work of students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members toward our end.
Jefferson Elementary has acquired notoriety as a Gold Star School of Missouri and as a Nationally Recognized Blue Ribbon School. The Panasonic School Change Award has been awarded to the school for two consecutive years. District awards for reading, professional development, and state level achievement have been ongoing throughout the last five years.
Parent Involvement is at its BEST at Jefferson. Our target area for most all of their efforts is improving student achievement. The #1 thing that must take place in order for the school to have a successful volunteer program is the embracing of our parent volunteers. This is seen everyday in our wonderful parents working to help the students achieve. The READING COUNTS INCENTIVE PROGRAM has been a joint effort with the community banks and the Parent Teacher Group. The ongoing support of the classroom teachers continually incorporates independent reading.
Stop by and visit us at Jefferson. See our 1st -4th grade building alive with engaged learners!
